Spanish Nights
A musical full of longing, Zionist zeal, and fraternal commitment
Starring Nati Ravitz, Eleanor Cohen, and the Aqua Oriental Band
Play: Shimi Dea'ee
Director: Nati Ravitz
Featuring dancers, actors, musicians and singers
Two families accidentally meet on their way to the Maghreb, and as it turns out, they share the same dream: to live on Mount Canaan in Safed. Together, they embark on a journey of romance, thrills, and high hopes.
The play relates the unique story of Grandmother Louise and Grandfather Sassi, British subjects who emigrated from Tunisia to Safed and lived there until their last day. The powerful, nostalgic, and enrapturing stage experience relies on a show interspersed with songs in Hebrew and Ladino, Maghreb-inspired poetry, and Andalusian-flavored piyuttim. The acting is superb, and the set- rich and the set - rich and suggestive.
